FAQ
What is ART?
ART is the Arts Regional Trust Te Taumata Toi-a-iwi; a charitable trust set up in 2000 by Auckland and Manukau City councils to manage and grow their combined share of the disestablished Auckland Regional Services Trust. The funds were specifically tagged for arts development. ART was formally incorporated in October 2001, with an initial capital sum of $6.8 million. The fund is now worth over $8.4 million (June 2006)
ART’s strategic focus for the next three years is to back the cultural entrepreneurial talent of Auckland region and their ideas through a range of programmes. The ART programmes are targeted at creative and cultural entrepreneurs who have ideas / projects that build or improve capability and capacity in the region’s creative and cultural sector.
Where does ART get it’s money from?
ART’s funds come from the capital fund that is invested and generates money which ART puts into the ART programmes.
I’m a creative practitioner, will ART fund my project?
The funds generated by the capital fund (after operational expenses and maintaining the fund against inflation) go into the ART programmes and we don’t fund any projects in addition to or outside of the ART programmes.
ART is a creative sector development agency and through the ART programmes aims to develop creative people, their projects and enterprises, and in turn contribute to the growth of the region’s creative sector. It may be that you or your organisation and your project could be eligible for participation in one of the ART programmes.
Who is eligible to take part in ART programmes?
Each of the programmes are targeted at creative people at different stages and different circumstances, but all ART programmes have an overall eligibility criterion: the participants in all ART programmes must either live in the Auckland region (Auckland, Manukau, Waitakere, North Shore, and Papakura cities, and Rodney and Franklin districts), or be able to demonstrate that their project and/or enterprise has benefit for the Auckland region.
